Well this day I was putting on one of my favorite pair of socks, the wool speckled ones. I have had them for YEARS. Moved in and out of several states with them. Love them! Really.
Well, as divine intervention would have it, my favorite socks have a hole in them. But that has never stopped me from wearing them. To reiterate, if you somehow got lost a few sentences back, I LOVE these socks! The hole keeps getting bigger and bigger as I continue to wash and wear them…but I love them just the same.
On this day the Lord met me on the floor of my bedroom as I put on my socks. Now first, I must tell you, I have not always heard the small still voice of the Lord. And when I did start to hear it, I did not really know how to respond or what was required of me.

A little beyond that stage, I heard the Lord whisper to me, “I know you like these socks but get a new pair”…I smiled and ½ laughed. Can you believe I laughed at a direct command from the Lord? (Is that blasphemy?) *Actually, now when I hear the Lord speak, I’ve learned how to respond.
I immediately started to defend my favorite pair of socks, after all, we had covered a lot of ground together. (Pun intended!)

I said to the Lord, “I love my socks and they are very comfortable. Anyway, they do not sell socks like this any more.” The Lord responded to me and said, “I know you like those socks but some time you become comfortable with things that are not always the best things for you… Let me show you…”
I know the Lord meant a whole lot more than just my favorite pair of socks!
Still, I am having a hard time parting with my socks but isn’t that just like old habits that we cling to that interfere with a new direction the Lord wants to point us toward, or new heights He wants to share with us, or new choices He wants us to make?
The Lord will meet you where you are but His intentions are never to leave you there.
